Health Reform and Health Insurance Uninsurables (Declines)

How does US Health Reform Help Uninsurables?

Not much is getting more press attention than the curren debate over health reform. But, in my opinion, one big problem that needs to be addressed is covering people with pre-existing conditions that are getting declined for health insurance today. How does the current health reform bill help these people?

People can get declined by private insurers for a large variety of reasons. These could range from mental health issues to high blood pressure readings. They could also be more serious. Of course, no insurer wants to pick up a patient who is already undergoing chemotherapy at $12k a day. But where do these people turn? It seems like most of us agree that our government should be the ultimate safety net, and how is health reform meeting that?

Medicare at 55 – The Latest Health Reform Rewind

Is a Lower Medicare Age Limit a Good Idea for Health Reform

I feel like a cartoon character today. You know, the type who sputter expetives like $#&! and stomps around. Why? Well, I am really disappointed that we are close to losing the health reform public option even though a majority of Americans say they favor it.

People, this is not about free health isurance. This is about having any access to health care at all for many people. Lots of Americans would be happy to pay a premium if they could get accepted. But they cannot get accepted because they have a health condition which cause insurers to decline them.

Lots of those people lost their health benefits too, but some where able to take advantage of a $25 billion dollar COBRA subsidy which defrayed 65% of the costs of the federal medical plan extension. But that plan is due to expire, and millions more may face the loss of medical benefits.
