Who are The Top Homeowners Insurance Companies?

You have probably gotten a lot of advice these days that it is especially important to look for the best insurance companies. Sure, you want a company with financial stability and higher financial ratings! But is that the whole story? Well, when you really need to make a claim, like after a natural disaster or accident, you will really not care that much about an AM Best Rating. What you will care about is how you are treated!

Several large home insurance companies were rated on overall experience, pricing, policies, communication (contacting the insurer), billing and payment procedures, and of course, homeowners claims payments. Who are the Best Homeowners Insurance Companies by Claims and Overall Satisfaction?

But lets look beyond financial ratings, and see which companies are making their clients happy when they really need to! I found a JD Powers survey of customer satisfaction survey, and that seems like a good place to start.

Award – Amica Mutural did the best with overall consumer satisfaction. They had 5 star ratings in all areas. No other  open home insurer did that well in this survey, though some came close. USAA, open only to the US military, did as well, but not everybody can buy a policy from this company.

Is Bigger also Better?

What is very interesting to note that the largest companies by premium dollars or financial ratings were not in the very top spots of the consumer satisfaction survey.  Smaller and more local companies seemed to be more popular with their clients. That is also why it is impossible to give one answer to every person when they ask which home insurance company is the best for them!
